Sami Lea Lipman turned to yoga to give her relief from spine & hip injuries after a surgery on her low back at the age of sixteen and a major motorcycle wreck at twenty-one. As a former ballet dancer, Sami has always been passionate about exercise that integrates the body with movement and rhythm. Sami found that along with pain-free living, vinyasa yoga gave her peace of mind in an otherwise very busy life, as well as camaraderie with her physical body, rather than seeing it as a barrier.
Everything changed late in 2014 when Sami traumatically lost her past fiancé. Her experience with grief, trauma, and suffering completely changed her outlook on yoga. It no longer was just a way to get fit, stand on her hands, and dive into her body/mind – instead, it became a critical tool towards survival, connection, and peace.
Armed with experience and empathy, Sami’s classes incorporate a powerfully challenging flow, inspirational thoughts, writings, and music. Sami became 200-hour RYT certified in 2010 at Breath and Body Yoga with her teacher, friend, and mentor Desirae Pierce. Sami has attended Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, and various other programs with Baron Baptiste, and has accumulated over 600 hours of training. Sami is on her path towards Baptiste Certification and RYT-500 hour certification. Along with Baron and Desirae, Sami has studied with Gioconda Parker, Christina Sell, John Friend, Leah Cullis, Seane Corn, Shiva Rae, Jeanie Manchester, Sianna Sherman, Stephen Uvalle, Amy Ippoliti, Shannon Paige, Gina Caputo, David Kyle, Duncan Wong, Ray Long, and more. These teachers have inspired her to always be a student while evolving as a teacher.
Sami became established as a yoga teacher in Austin, TX and taught at Breath and Body Yoga, Wanderlust Yoga, Say OM Yoga, and BFree Yoga while living there. While in Austin she had the opportunity to work with the University of Texas and teach yoga to their division one baseball, softball, golf, tennis, and volleyball teams. She also worked with the Dartmouth rowing team and private clients to gear them towards success in their sport by coupling it with a strategically focused yoga practice. Sami moved to Boulder, where she taught regular classes, teacher trainings, workshops, and special events at Radiance Power Yoga, Corepower Yoga, YogaPod Boulder, the Little Yoga Studio, and the Colorado Athletic Club. Sami is currently teaching at Down Under School of Yoga in Boston, MA.
Sami has been featured in various national publications as a model, teacher, and writer including Origin Magazine, Mantra Yoga & Health, Colorado Yoga Magazine, New York Yoga + Life and on Time to Yoga. She also writes a popular blog on the path of grief, love, and life through yoga. Sami has taught and assisted at various festivals and events including Burning Man, Wanderlust, YarmonyGrass, One Om at a Time, Austin Yoga Expo, Power in the Park (with Justin Vernon), and various Lululemon programs. In 2014, Sami was chosen to teach yoga to children and families at The White House during their Easter Egg Roll celebration. Teaching yoga as the President and First Lady sang the national anthem is one of Sami’s most exciting and humbling memories.
Sami's work in sports marketing for the Olympic Games, World Cup, PGA Tour, Commonwealth Games, and other major sporting events led her to couple her strength in design and branding with her yoga. She was previously the Creative Director at Origin Magazine, Mantra Yoga & Health, Yoga + life Magazines, and brand strategist for Real Teen Magazine, Thrive Magazine, the Baptiste Institute, and many other growing yoga names and studios. Upon moving to Boston in 2017, Sami joined the management team at Down Under Yoga as the Director of Marketing, Brand, and Strategic Planning.
When Sami isn’t on her mat, at the studio, or in front of her laptop, she is probably dancing to live music, in heels, with a glass of champagne in her hand, and her wonderful man Patrick, by her side.
